I spent some time this afternoon producing this small painting for an art challenge. I think these small, fun pieces are a good way of developing skills and trying new ideas where it is not so important to achieve an outcome you would want to exhibit.

What is it - A dancer.

The section of painting in a previous post is now revealed. So, it wasn't goats, polar bear feet, our dog Roma etc. but a section from the leg and foot of this dancer. I think that it was a lot harder than I expected to guess from such a small area so thanks to those who had a go.

The Olive Crop

We have been picking our olives this last week so I thought it appropriate to celebrate with a quick painting. Bashing an olive tree with a big stick is certainly a lot harder than bashing paper with a paintbrush.

Art Exhibition, Frigiliana

I will be exhibiting along with 11 other artists from the Axarquia Art group in Frigiliana from Jan 21st to Feb 11th 2012. If you live in the local area please feel free to attend the opening reception from 4.00pm until 8.00pm on he 21st Jan and meet the artists. The group has members from many different countries five of which are represented in this exhibition. There may be one or two hiccups with translation at times but we get there in the end. In any case, the quality of artwork speaks for itself!

Sun Hats

The winter sun caught coming through the window and catching the hats left out since Summer. It is surprising how different the sun is between seasons, far more "white" in the winter but can give much better shadows for a painting.

Lone Goat

We always seem to take the front view as the best angle for a painting but this one struck me as quite expressive from the back. It reminded me a lot of those images of huge stags with massive horns on the rocky highlands of Scotland. What is she looking at? Where is she going? Who knows!
